Sun Feb 16 14:48:41 UTC 2025: ## BRS Leader Accuses Congress of Dismantling Gurukuls in Telangana
**Hyderabad, February 16, 2025** – Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has launched a scathing attack on the Telangana Congress government, accusing it of systematically dismantling the state’s gurukuls – government residential schools – that thrived under the previous BRS regime.
In a statement released Sunday, Mr. Rao blamed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the alleged decline, asserting that the Congress party is deliberately targeting the gurukuls to erase the legacy of former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
He cited a significant drop in applications for admission as evidence of the gurukul system’s deterioration. While 1.68 lakh applications were received for 41,000 seats during the BRS tenure, this number has plummeted to 80,000 for 51,000 seats under the Congress government. Mr. Rao attributed this decline to a series of tragic incidents, including over 50 student deaths due to snakebites, suicides, and food poisoning, alongside reports of poor hygiene and substandard food quality. He stated that parents are now afraid to send their children to these institutions.
Mr. Rao further criticized the Congress government for its lack of response to the tragedies, failing to even offer condolences to the families of the deceased students. He accused the government of neglecting the future of lakhs of children and called for an immediate review of the situation. He highlighted the Chief Minister’s responsibility as the education portfolio holder, emphasizing the discriminatory and crippling impact of the Congress government’s actions on the gurukul system.
