Sun Feb 16 13:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Railway Stampede at New Delhi Station Claims 18 Lives; Investigation Underway

**New Delhi** – A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night claimed the lives of at least 18 people and injured dozens more, prompting a swift investigation by a two-member committee appointed by the Railways Ministry. The incident occurred around 9:55 PM near platforms 13 and 14, reportedly due to overcrowding caused by a delayed train and passengers attempting to board multiple trains simultaneously.

A team comprised of Narsingh Deo, Principal Chief Commercial Manager of Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Northern Railway, visited the scene Sunday. They secured all CCTV footage from the station and began interviewing witnesses. “All the CCTV footage has been secured, the site inspected, and relevant evidence collected,” Deo stated, adding that a report detailing their findings is expected soon.

Initial statements from the Railways attributed the incident to an “unprecedented rush situation” and rumors of a stampede, which caused panic. However, the death toll and the accounts of distraught family members waiting outside Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital paint a grimmer picture. The authorities have pledged to take appropriate action once the investigation is complete.
