**COVINGTON, Ga. (Atlanta News First)** – Two people are dead following a single-engine plane crash near the Covington Municipal Airport late Saturday night. Covington police responded to the scene at approximately 11:21 p.m. after receiving a notification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that the aircraft had lost communication shortly after takeoff around 11:00 p.m.
The plane was discovered in the woods just north of the runway. Emergency responders pronounced both occupants dead at the scene. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the cause of the crash. Further details are expected as the investigation proceeds.
