Sat Feb 15 12:59:18 UTC 2025: ## Vellore Police Return 230 Lost Mobile Phones Worth ₹46 Lakh

**Vellore, February 15, 2025** – In a significant initiative, the Vellore district police returned 230 lost and found mobile phones to their owners on Saturday. The phones, valued at ₹46 lakh, were recovered by the district’s cyber crime police unit and distributed by Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Mathivanan.

This large-scale return follows the recent establishment of a dedicated cyber crime unit and the launch of a cell tracker application for registering complaints. SP Mathivanan stated that a total of 1,554 lost phones, worth approximately ₹3 crore, have been returned to their owners since the implementation of the new system and the use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR).

The police have also established a helpline number (9486214166) for residents to report lost or found mobile phones. Prior to the formation of the cybercrime cell, police stations were required to return lost phones every six months. This new initiative demonstrates a more efficient and streamlined process for recovering stolen or lost mobile devices in the Vellore district.
