Sat Feb 15 08:00:06 UTC 2025: ## Hit-and-Run Charges Filed Against Repatriated Suspect
**Kozhikode, Kerala – February 15, 2025** – A chargesheet has been filed against Shajeel, the accused in a fatal hit-and-run case that occurred in Vadakara, Kerala in February 2024. The incident resulted in the death of an elderly woman and left her nine-year-old granddaughter in a coma.
Shajeel, who was extradited from Dubai, faces charges under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence), 338 (causing grievous hurt), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The chargesheet was submitted to the Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Friday, February 14, 2025, by DySP V.V. Benny of the District Crime Branch.
The investigation involved approximately ten witnesses, including the mechanic who repaired Shajeel’s car after the accident. Evidence presented includes documents related to the vehicle, its insurance claim, and the mechanic’s bills. While the car and shattered glass were submitted as material evidence, missing headlights and a bumper hampered the investigation; however, photographs submitted by Shajeel for his insurance claim were included. Separately, Shajeel also faces charges of document forgery related to the insurance claim.
