**Hollywood, CA** – Warner Bros. Pictures is officially moving forward with a sequel to the beloved 1985 classic, *The Goonies*. After years of speculation, the studio has confirmed that Potsy Ponciroli (*Still the King*, *Old Henry*) has been hired to pen the script for *The Goonies 2*.
While plot details remain under wraps, the sequel will be produced by Steven Spielberg, who also produced and conceived the original film, alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario. Chris Columbus and Lauren Shuler Donner will serve as executive producers. A director has yet to be attached to the project, and the involvement of the original cast remains unconfirmed.
The news follows a previous report indicating Warner Bros.’ interest in developing both *The Goonies 2* and a new *Gremlins* film. Currently, however, only the *Goonies* sequel has seen concrete development. No release date has been set for *The Goonies 2*.
