Sat Feb 15 13:48:14 UTC 2025: ## Local Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Waste Dumping in Kalamassery

**KOCHI, February 15, 2025** – Authorities in Kochi are implementing a multi-pronged strategy to combat illegal waste dumping along the NAD-Kalamassery road. A meeting convened by District Collector N.S.K. Umesh resulted in a plan involving vehicle checks, the issuance of resident passes, and increased surveillance.

The initiative, supported by NAD security personnel, aims to curb the persistent problem of waste disposal in the area. Vehicles traveling the road during late night and early morning hours will be subject to scrutiny. Special passes will be issued by the Edathala panchayat and Kalamassery municipality to avoid inconveniencing residents.

To further deter illegal dumping, approximately 100 cameras will be installed by NAD, with an initial five expected within the next month. Public announcements and signage will also be used to raise awareness. The use of net fences is under consideration to physically prevent waste disposal along the roadside.

Addressing another related issue, authorities plan to tackle lorry parking between SCMS College and Apollo Junction. The possibility of establishing a pay-and-park facility in this area is also being explored.
