Sat Feb 15 13:02:38 UTC 2025: ## India to Receive 26/11 Mumbai Attack Conspirator Tahawwur Rana
**New Delhi, February 14, 2025** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced today that the state is prepared to incarcerate Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, upon his extradition from the United States. The extradition was approved by the U.S. administration following a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in January.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the extradition in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, referring to Rana as “one of the plotters and very evil people of the world” involved in the Mumbai attacks. CM Fadnavis expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his efforts in securing Rana’s extradition, noting that the U.S. was initially hesitant to hand over the suspect.
Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, is currently in a Los Angeles detention center. He is known to have ties to David Coleman Headley, another key conspirator in the attacks. The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of Rana’s extradition, highlighting the importance of bringing perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks to justice within India’s legal system. The investigation into the attacks, Fadnavis added, exposed and established Pakistan’s role in the event. The state government’s readiness to house Rana mirrors its past handling of Ajmal Kasab, another terrorist involved in the attacks, who was captured, tried, and executed in Maharashtra.
