**Doha, Qatar** – Jelena Ostapenko continued her dominance over Iga Swiatek, defeating the world No. 2 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, in the semifinals of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open. This victory extends Ostapenko’s unbeaten record against Swiatek to 5-0 and ends the three-time defending champion’s 15-match winning streak in Doha.

The Latvian’s powerful game proved too much for Swiatek, who managed only four games in the match – her lowest total since 2019. Ostapenko’s aggressive baseline play, highlighted by 24 winners to Swiatek’s seven, overwhelmed the Pole. The match lasted just 70 minutes, Swiatek’s quickest defeat since 2021.

“I was pretty confident that I obviously would beat her,” Ostapenko said after the match. “I was more focusing on myself and what I had to do.” Her confidence is well-founded; she is the only active player with a winning head-to-head record against Swiatek (with at least two matches played).

Ostapenko will now face Amanda Anisimova in the final, her first WTA 1000 final since 2018. This will be their second meeting in Doha, with Ostapenko winning their previous encounter in 2022. The victory marks Ostapenko’s 17th career WTA final appearance. The six-year gap since her last WTA 1000 final is the longest in the history of the format.
