**KOCHI, Kerala – February 15, 2025** – A surprise inspection of Kerala police vehicles has unearthed unaccounted cash and raised concerns about potential misconduct. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) conducted a “Midnight Operation” across Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts, examining 25 vehicles – 13 highway patrol vehicles and 12 control room vehicles.

The operation, involving a 60-member team, discovered ₹4,850 in unaccounted cash. ₹2,850 was found in the bag of a highway patrol vehicle driver in Manarkkad, while ₹2,000 was discovered under the seat of a control room vehicle in Perumbavoor. Furthermore, a highway patrol vehicle was found missing from its designated location in Muvattupuzha; its official was reportedly found intoxicated and handed over to the police.

Nine officials – three sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector, two grade civil police officers, and three drivers – face potential disciplinary action for suspected dereliction of duty. The VACB stated that further investigation will determine the appropriate action against these officials. The operation, led by S. Sasidharan, Superintendent of Police, VACB Ernakulam unit, lasted from Thursday midnight to Friday morning.
