**New Delhi, Feb 13:** Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today introduced the comprehensive Income Tax Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha. The 622-page bill, while not introducing major structural changes, aims to streamline the tax code by simplifying its language and removing redundant clauses. The bill, comprising 23 chapters, 536 sections, and 16 schedules, will see a new “tax year” commencing April 1, 2026.
Despite an increase in the number of sections, the overall length of the bill has been reduced due to the removal of superfluous provisions. However, before final approval, the bill has been referred to a select committee for detailed examination and potential amendments. The committee is expected to submit its report by the commencement of Parliament’s next session.
