**New Delhi, February 15, 2025** – A 31-member select committee of the Lok Sabha has been formed to examine the Income-Tax Bill, 2025, with BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda appointed as chairman. The committee, constituted on February 14th, includes 17 members from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and 13 from opposition parties.

The NDA representation comprises 14 BJP MPs, along with one each from the TDP, JD(U), and Shiv Sena. Opposition members include six from the Congress, two from the Samajwadi Party, and one each from the DMK, TMC, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), RSP, and the Zoram People’s Movement.

Prominent members include BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, P.P. Chaudhary, Bhartruhari Mahtab, and Anil Baluni, and opposition MPs Deepender Singh Hooda (Congress), Mahua Moitra (TMC), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), and N.K. Premachandran (RSP).

The committee is mandated to submit its report by the first day of the Monsoon session, expected to begin in the third week of July. The Bill, introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, aims to simplify the tax language by replacing terms like “assessment year” and “previous year” with “tax year.” The ongoing Budget Session concludes on April 4th.
