Sat Feb 15 06:48:43 UTC 2025: ## Lebanese President Condemns Attack on UN Peacekeepers

**Beirut, Lebanon –** Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned a violent attack on a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy on Friday, February 14, 2025. The attack, which injured the outgoing Deputy Force Commander, occurred as peacekeepers were traveling to Beirut airport. UNIFIL described the attack as “outrageous” and expressed shock at the assault on personnel working to restore security and stability in south Lebanon.

The Lebanese army intervened to disperse the protestors responsible, who were blocking roads to the airport and elsewhere in the capital. These demonstrations stemmed from a recent decision by Lebanese authorities to revoke permission for an Iranian passenger plane to land in Beirut on Thursday, stranding numerous Lebanese passengers. The army’s acting commander, Maj. Gen. Hassan Odeh, assured UNIFIL that efforts are underway to apprehend and prosecute those involved in the attack. President Aoun’s statement emphasized that security forces will not tolerate any attempts to destabilize the country.
