ROME, ITALY – February 14, 2025 – Fourteen Palestinian children, many suffering from cancer, have arrived in Italy for medical treatment, continuing a humanitarian effort launched following the October 2023 Hamas-Israel war. The children, accompanied by 31 family members, were flown to Rome’s Ciampino airport on February 13th on an Italian military plane after crossing from Gaza into Egypt. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani greeted them, emphasizing the initiative as a gesture of peace and solidarity.
The children will receive treatment in various Italian hospitals, including the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome, which previously treated nine Palestinian children who have since been discharged. This is part of a larger effort by Italy and other European nations to provide medical care to children affected by the ongoing conflict. Since January 2024, Italy has facilitated the arrival of dozens of Palestinian children for treatment, utilizing both air and naval transport. The Italian Defence Secretary, Guido Crosetto, described each child’s arrival as a “sign of hope.” The ongoing medical assistance underscores Italy’s commitment to humanitarian aid in the region.
