**VIZIANAGARAM/SRIKAKULAM, Andhra Pradesh, February 15, 2025** – Temperatures in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh have surged significantly, with residents already feeling the heat of an early summer. Daytime temperatures, which hovered around 30°C in the first week of February, have climbed to 33°C, prompting many to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.).
The Indian Meteorological Department predicts further temperature increases, potentially reaching 38°C in the coming weeks. The lack of urban forestry and green spaces is exacerbating the impact of the heat.
In response, the Vizianagaram municipal corporation is prioritizing repairs to public hand pumps and major pipelines to ensure sufficient water supply amid concerns of groundwater depletion. Rivers such as the Vamsadhara and Nagavali are also experiencing reduced inflows due to the early summer heat.
