**Mumbai, India** – Vicky Kaushal’s latest period epic, “Chhaava,” has stormed the box office, achieving the biggest opening day of 2025 and setting new records for Valentine’s Day releases. Despite mixed critical reviews, the Laxman Utekar-directed film raked in an estimated Rs 31 crore (nett) across all languages on its opening day, according to Sacnilk.

This impressive debut surpasses several milestones. “Chhaava” not only becomes Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opener, easily eclipsing the Rs 8.20 crore opening of his previous hit, “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” but also outperforms Akshay Kumar’s “Sky Force,” which earned Rs 15.30 crore on its opening day last month. Furthermore, it shattered the previous record for the highest-grossing Indian film on Valentine’s Day, previously held by “Gully Boy” with Rs 19.40 crore.

The film, a historical action drama based on the life of Maratha king Sambhaji, stars Vicky Kaushal in the titular role alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta. Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films and featuring a score by A. R. Rahman, “Chhaava” is an adaptation of Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel. While initial reviews have been mixed, the film’s box office success indicates strong audience appeal. The film’s remarkable opening day occupancy of 35.17% in Hindi further underscores its popularity.
