Sat Feb 15 11:47:58 UTC 2025: ## BSNL Returns to Profitability After 17 Years

**New Delhi, February 15, 2025** – State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a remarkable turnaround, reporting a net profit of ₹262 crore for the December quarter—its first quarterly profit in 17 years. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia hailed the result as a “significant turning point” for the company.

BSNL’s success is attributed to a combination of factors, including significant growth across its service offerings. Mobility services revenue increased by 15%, Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) revenue by 18%, and leased line services revenue by 14% compared to the same quarter last year. The company also achieved substantial cost reductions, cutting its finance cost and overall expenditure, resulting in a loss reduction of over ₹1,800 crore compared to the previous year. Subscriber base growth also contributed to the positive results, increasing from 8.4 crore in June to approximately 9 crore in December.

Further contributing to the positive results were innovative offerings such as National WiFi Roaming, BiTV entertainment for mobile customers, and IFTV for FTTH customers, along with the rollout of private 5G connectivity for mining. The Minister expressed confidence that BSNL will continue its positive trajectory, aiming to maintain cost control and further reduce losses in the coming year.

BSNL’s EBITDA has doubled in the past four years, reaching almost ₹2,100 crore in FY23-24. The company is also aggressively expanding its 4G network, with nearly 75,000 out of 100,000 planned towers already installed and close to 60,000 commissioned. The Minister anticipates all 100,000 towers will be operational by June 2025.
