**Mumbai, India** – Vicky Kaushal’s latest historical epic, *Chhaava*, has stormed the box office, setting new records despite mixed critical reception. The Laxman Utekar-directed film debuted as the biggest opener of 2025, earning approximately Rs 31 crore (nett) on its first day across all languages.
This surpasses the previous record holder, Akshay Kumar’s *Sky Force*, and marks Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing opening day, significantly exceeding the Rs 8.20 crore achieved by his previous hit, *Uri: The Surgical Strike*. *Chhaava* also achieved the distinction of being the highest-grossing Indian film on Valentine’s Day, breaking *Gully Boy*’s 2019 record of Rs 19.40 crore. Hindi occupancy on the film’s opening day reached 35.17%.
The film, a Maddock Films production based on the Marathi novel *Chhava* by Shivaji Sawant, depicts the life of Maratha king Sambhaji, played by Kaushal. The star-studded cast includes Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta, with music composed by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil. Despite mixed reviews, *Chhaava*’s impressive box office performance solidifies its position as a major cinematic success.
