**Washington, D.C. – February 14, 2025** – India has firmly rejected any third-party involvement in resolving its ongoing border dispute with China, following an offer of mediation from U.S. President Donald Trump. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India maintains a consistent policy of addressing such bilateral issues through direct negotiations.
During a press briefing, Misri reiterated India’s long-standing position that no third party has a role in its disputes with any nation. He emphasized that India will continue its bilateral dialogue with China to resolve the border tensions.
President Trump, after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offered his support in resolving the “vicious” border skirmishes. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation between India, China, Russia, and the U.S.
While acknowledging the complexities of the India-China relationship, strained by the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, Misri emphasized India’s commitment to a bilateral approach. Although both sides have made progress in disengaging troops from several friction points in eastern Ladakh, including Depsang and Demchok, India insists that normalization of ties hinges on achieving peace along the border. Recent talks between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping aimed to revive various dialogue mechanisms.
