**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has urged law enforcement and prosecution officials to bolster their expertise in combating cybercrime, citing a concerning increase in such offences despite an overall drop in the state’s crime rate. Addressing a state-level workshop on digital evidence in Vijayawada on February 15th, 2025, Minister Anitha emphasized the need for enhanced training for assistant public prosecutors (APPs), public prosecutors (PPs), advocates, and police officers in detecting online fraud.
The workshop, organized by the Prosecutions Department, highlighted the crucial role of digital evidence in criminal investigations. NTR Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu showcased case studies illustrating the effectiveness of CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and drone surveillance in solving critical cases.
Minister Anitha also advocated for increased e-vigilance, particularly given the planned installation of 100,000 CCTV cameras across the state. She suggested expanding surveillance to a household level, likening it to other common electronic devices. She further stressed the importance of collaboration between prosecutors and investigators to ensure successful prosecutions and justice for victims.
The Minister’s statement comes in the wake of a recent acid attack on a 24-year-old woman near Madanapalle, prompting Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to condemn the act and order strict action. The Home Minister’s call for improved training reflects a proactive approach to tackling the evolving challenges posed by cybercrime in Andhra Pradesh.
