
Sat Feb 15 04:50:04 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal Police Busts Major Cybercrime Ring Linked to Jamtara Gang
**Kolkata, February 15, 2025** – West Bengal Police have launched a major crackdown on cybercriminals operating across the state, arresting 46 individuals linked to the notorious Jamtara gang in Jharkhand. The arrests follow a surge in cybercrime reports, with over 250 incidents reported in the last month, primarily in districts bordering Jharkhand.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Cyber Shakti,” involved ten police teams strategically deployed across the state. According to Additional Director General of Police (South Bengal), Supratim Sarkar, the operation focused on investigating a sharp increase in cybercrimes, including phishing scams, fake job offers, digital extortion, fake investment schemes, and sextortion.
While the arrested individuals represent various networks, they are all connected to the Jamtara gang. Police recovered numerous incriminating items, including 84 SIM cards, cell phones, two laptops, numerous technical gadgets, over 100 fake bank accounts, and more than 100 credit and debit cards.
Mr. Sarkar stated that 90% of the 250 complaints have already been resolved. He added that the operation is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated. Police also noted a trend of cybercrime gangs relocating to avoid detection, highlighting the evolving nature of this type of crime.
