Thu Feb 13 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Unseasonably Warm Weekend Predicted, Followed by Return of Winter Cold
**Seoul, South Korea** – A brief respite from the winter chill is expected this weekend, with temperatures rising above average due to a high-pressure system moving in from central China. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced in a regular briefing that warmer weather will arrive on Saturday, lasting through Sunday. Saturday’s highs are forecast to reach 7-12 degrees Celsius, with lows of -6 to 2 degrees Celsius. Sunday will see slightly warmer temperatures, with lows of -4 to 2 degrees Celsius and highs of 7-12 degrees Celsius.
However, the KMA warns that the warming trend could lead to potential hazards. Thawing ground could cause rockfalls, while weakened ice on rivers, lakes, and streams poses a risk of collapse. Dense fog is also expected in inland areas of central Korea due to warm westerly winds, prompting warnings for drivers.
The pleasant weather will be short-lived. Starting Monday, a Siberian high-pressure system will bring a return of colder-than-average temperatures, lasting until at least Thursday. Monday and Tuesday morning lows will dip to -8 to 0 degrees Celsius, with highs of 0 to 7 degrees Celsius.
Light rain is forecast for the southern coastal regions of South Jeolla Province and Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju Island, starting Saturday morning. Jeju’s mountain areas may see a mix of rain and snow.
The KMA also issued a warning for a high risk of wildfires along the east coast from next Monday to the 23rd, due to very dry conditions and strong winds. The public is urged to exercise caution with fire and take preventative measures.
