**Hyderabad, February 12, 2025** – The Telangana High Court has issued a stay order on the construction of an Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Processing Unit in Sangareddy, pending further review. The order follows a writ petition filed by a resident concerned about environmental impacts and lack of necessary clearances.
The petitioner, Swarnalath of Bollineni Homes in Mahdapur, argued that the project site is within 15 kilometers of the Dundigal Air Base, violating environmental regulations and posing risks to air and water quality. The petitioner’s counsel further claimed that no Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study was conducted before the project was approved, echoing concerns previously raised by the Indian Air Force Academy.
While the Telangana government’s Advocate General contended that no land-digging or filling was involved, only waste segregation and energy generation, the court directed the government to file a counter-affidavit. The court permitted a land survey and road-laying assessment to proceed, but halted all other construction until the matter is reviewed in two weeks. The case highlights concerns about potential environmental damage and the importance of obtaining proper clearances before undertaking large-scale projects.
