Wed Feb 12 18:54:34 UTC 2025: ## Shab-e-Barat 2025: Muslims to Observe Night of Forgiveness on February 13
**NEW DELHI** – Muslims across the globe will observe Shab-e-Barat, the Night of Forgiveness, on February 13, 2025. This significant Islamic holiday falls on the 14th night of the Shaban month, the eighth month in the Islamic calendar.
Shab-e-Barat is considered a sacred night for seeking forgiveness from Allah. Devout Muslims spend the night in prayer, seeking repentance for their sins. The day is marked by preparing and distributing food to the needy, with families engaging in prayers and seeking blessings throughout the night. Men typically attend mosque prayers while women pray at home. Many also visit the graves of their ancestors to offer prayers for their forgiveness. While observing a fast on the following day is common, it’s considered voluntary (nafil roza). Those unable to fully observe Ramadan fasting should refrain.
The significance of Shab-e-Barat varies slightly between Sunni and Shia Muslims. Sunni traditions associate the night with the preservation of Allah’s Ark of Light, while Shia Muslims link it to the birth of the 12th Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi. Some hadith also mention the Prophet Muhammad’s visit to Jannatul Baqi on the 15th of Shaban.
Shab-e-Barat is a time for reflection, prayer, and charity, representing a crucial opportunity for Muslims to seek spiritual renewal and closeness to God.
