**PUNE, February 13, 2025** – The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Pune has announced the bust of a massive Input Tax Credit (ITC) fraud involving ₹1,196 crore. A coordinated operation across Pune, Delhi, Noida, and Muzaffarnagar led to the arrest of a private firm director accused of masterminding the scheme.
The investigation revealed a network of 20 shell companies generating fake invoices and e-way bills lacking any corresponding goods movement. Authorities confirmed the fraudulent network facilitated the availing and passing of the massive fake ITC. The accused allegedly used a database of stolen personal information from vulnerable individuals to obtain multiple GST registrations and evade detection.
During searches, officials seized incriminating documents including original invoices, financial records, and company seals. One bank account linked to the fraudulent activity has been frozen, and further investigations are ongoing. The arrested individual, the director of a Muzaffarnagar-based firm, is currently facing charges.
