**New Delhi, February 13, 2025** – Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a demonstration at Parliament House today protesting against the rising number of wild animal attacks in Kerala and the government’s approval of offshore sand mining.
The protest follows eleven deaths in Wayanad district since December 27th due to wildlife encounters. Priyanka Gandhi expressed deep concern over the situation, highlighting the insufficient funds available at the local level to address the crisis. She urged both the central and state governments to provide financial assistance to mitigate the problem.
The MPs also voiced strong opposition to offshore sand mining in Kerala, Gujarat, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Congress and RSP members had previously demanded the withdrawal of the government’s decision in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, citing the detrimental impact on fishermen’s livelihoods and the environment. Congress MP K.C. Venugopal emphasized the urgent need for the government to revoke the order.
