Wed Feb 12 15:37:00 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) Leader Condemns Panneerselvam Over Land Acquisition, Calls for Action
**Dindigul, Tamil Nadu –** CPI(M) Central Committee member K. Balakrishnan has criticized former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam for allegedly acquiring land reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) communities. Following a state commission’s finding that Panneerselvam purchased such land and obtained a patta (land ownership document) in his name, Balakrishnan called for appropriate action against him.
Speaking to reporters after a party meeting in Dindigul on Wednesday, Balakrishnan highlighted the broader issue of influential individuals acquiring SC/ST land. He urged the government to intervene, reclaim any illegally obtained land, and return it to the rightful beneficiaries.
Balakrishnan also condemned the BJP, RSS, and other Hindu organizations for allegedly attempting to sow discord in Tirupparankundram, Madurai. He urged the state government to take action against those responsible.
Furthermore, he advocated for a special debate in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to address the rising number of sexual harassment cases, particularly those involving teachers and students. He expressed concern over the increasing insecurity faced by women in the state, citing recent reports of harassment and difficulties in safe travel.
The meeting, attended by several CPI(M) state executive committee members, served as a preparatory gathering ahead of the party’s All India Conference.
