**Kozhikode, Kerala –** The renovated Kozhikode Town Hall was inaugurated on Sunday, February 9th, with Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas assuring residents that several large-scale development projects for the city, as outlined in the recent state budget, are moving forward. The Minister refuted criticisms surrounding the projects, stating that funding has already been allocated. He highlighted the ₹1,118 crore allocation for the inland water transportation network from Kovalam to Bekal, and additional funds earmarked for road improvements and flyovers. Mr. Riyas emphasized Kozhikode’s key role in Kerala’s urbanization, anticipating 70% of the state’s population will reside in urban areas by 2031.
The Town Hall’s five-month, ₹30 lakh renovation included upgrades such as new wood paneling, an LED wall, seating, and improved electrical systems. Mayor Beena Philip, in her address, emphasized the compassionate approach to Kozhikode’s rapid development, citing the ongoing ₹63 crore renovation of the Tagore Centenary Hall, which will become a 2,000-seat venue for national and international theatre productions. MLA Ahammad Devarkovil served as the chief guest at the inauguration, which was followed by cultural performances.
