Mon Feb 10 00:02:28 UTC 2025: ## Floodlight Failure Disrupts India-England ODI, Sparks Odisha Government Inquiry

**Cuttack, Odisha, February 10, 2025** – A faulty floodlight plunged the second One Day International (ODI) cricket match between India and England into darkness for approximately 30 minutes on Sunday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The incident prompted immediate calls for an explanation from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA).

The disruption occurred during the match, which India ultimately won by four wickets, securing the series. State Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who attended the match alongside Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, stated that the government will seek a detailed explanation from the OCA regarding the floodlight malfunction, despite the OCA’s claims of having taken necessary precautions and made elaborate arrangements.

OCA secretary Sanjay Behara attributed the failure to a generator malfunction. He explained that while a backup generator was available, its deployment was delayed due to a player’s vehicle obstructing access.

Congress MLA Sofia Firdous, also present at the stadium, criticized the incident, demanding an impartial investigation into the matter. Despite the setback, Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a century, quelling speculation about his form and retirement. Chief Minister Majhi expressed his enjoyment of the match and congratulated both teams and the audience. The incident overshadowed India’s series-clinching victory.
