**Cuttack, India:** Indian captain Rohit Sharma etched his name into ODI history during the second match against England, surpassing Chris Gayle to become the second-highest six-hitter in the format. Sharma achieved the feat with a towering six in the second over of India’s innings, a flick off Gus Atkinson that sailed over mid-wicket.

This shot took his ODI six count to 332, achieved in 259 innings across 267 matches. He now trails only Shahid Afridi (351 sixes) in the all-time list. Gayle, previously holding the second spot, sits just one six behind with 331 in 294 innings over 301 matches. Sanath Jayasuriya is a distant third with 270 sixes.

The match itself saw England, after winning the toss and electing to bat, post a total of 304 runs. Their innings, initially looking promising thanks to contributions from Ben Duckett (65), Joe Root (69), and Jos Buttler (34), was curtailed by a disciplined bowling performance from India, particularly Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja’s impressive spell of 3/35 kept England’s run rate in check, claiming key wickets including Duckett and Root. Liam Livingstone’s late blitz (41 off 32) and some late hitting prevented the total from being even lower. The score of 304 represents the lowest total at Barabati Stadium since 2011, significantly below the venue’s average score of over 350 in recent years.
