**Bengaluru, India** – Grammy-winning singer Ed Sheeran’s surprise street performance in Bengaluru was abruptly halted by police today, just minutes after he began singing his hit song “Shape of You.” While authorities cited a lack of official permission for the event on Church Street, Sheeran’s team maintains they had prior approval for the brief busking appearance.
A video of the incident shows police officers disconnecting Sheeran’s microphone mid-song. DCP Central Bengaluru, Shekar T. Tekkannanavar, explained that while a member of Sheeran’s team, Chetan, had sought permission, it was denied due to Church Street’s high traffic volume and a high court order mandating several evacuations in the area.
Sheeran himself addressed the incident on his Instagram story, stating, “We had permission to busk… Hence, us playing in that exact spot was planned out beforehand. It wasn’t just us randomly turning up. All good though. See you at the show tonight x.”
The incident occurred hours before Sheeran’s scheduled concert in Bengaluru as part of his “Mathematics” tour. He has already performed in Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Despite the interruption, Sheeran is expected to proceed with his planned concert this evening.
