Mon Feb 10 01:15:40 UTC 2025: ## Manipur Assembly Session Cancelled After Chief Minister’s Resignation

**Imphal, Manipur –** The Manipur Assembly’s upcoming session, scheduled for February 10th, has been cancelled following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla declared the previously scheduled session null and void on Sunday, hours after Singh submitted his resignation.

Singh’s departure comes amidst mounting pressure from the Congress-led opposition, who were poised to move a no-confidence motion against his BJP government. The state has been embroiled in ethnic conflict for nearly two years. In his resignation letter, Singh expressed gratitude to the central government for its support.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attributed Singh’s resignation to public pressure and the threat of the no-confidence motion. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing Singh to remain in office despite the ongoing violence and urged Modi to visit Manipur immediately to address the situation and restore peace. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, highlighting the party’s repeated calls for Singh’s removal since May 2023, and criticizing Modi’s lack of visits to the state. Ramesh described Singh’s resignation as “belated.”

Singh’s resignation followed a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. The future of the Manipur government remains uncertain following this significant development.
