**New Delhi, February 10, 2025** – Newly elected BJP MLA Parvesh Verma launched a scathing poetic attack on Delhi’s former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following the BJP’s landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. Verma, who defeated Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, shared a video on X juxtaposing Kejriwal’s pre-election boast of invincibility with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign rhetoric and the final election results, which saw the BJP secure 48 seats compared to AAP’s 22.
The video highlights Kejriwal’s pre-election challenge to PM Modi, claiming the AAP could not be defeated in Delhi. This was contrasted with Modi’s campaign slogans emphasizing a rejection of the AAP.
Accompanying the video, Verma posted a couplet, a slightly altered version of a famous Urdu poem by Habib Jalib, a renowned Pakistani poet known for his criticism of authoritarianism. The couplet, translating roughly to “The one who sat on the throne believed himself to be God,” alludes to Kejriwal’s perceived hubris.
Verma’s victory is considered a significant upset, marking an end to AAP’s decade-long rule in Delhi. He is now considered a leading contender for the position of Delhi’s Chief Minister, although the BJP is yet to officially announce its choice. Party president JP Nadda met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah today to discuss government formation, with the swearing-in ceremony reportedly planned for after Prime Minister Modi’s return from the United States.
