Mon Feb 10 03:44:37 UTC 2025: ## AAP Chief Minister Atishi Resigns After BJP Landslide Victory in Delhi Elections

**New Delhi** – Atishi, the Delhi Chief Minister from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), resigned from her post on Sunday, a day after the BJP secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP won 48 seats, compared to the AAP’s 22, a significant drop from their 62 seats in 2020. The Congress failed to win any seats for the third consecutive election.

Atishi submitted her resignation letter to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, who forwarded it to President Droupadi Murmu for acceptance. While she resigned, the LG requested Atishi to remain as caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is formed.

Atishi, who retained her Kalkaji constituency seat, attributed her victory to the people rejecting “hooliganism, abusive language, and the insulting of women,” referencing alleged sexist remarks made by her BJP opponent during the campaign. Her tenure as Chief Minister, which began in September 2024, was short-lived, following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal amid corruption allegations.

The BJP, which contested the election without a declared Chief Ministerial candidate, is expected to stake its claim to form the government next week, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s return from overseas engagements. The Election Commission of India officially concluded the election process on Sunday, submitting the list of newly elected MLAs to the Lieutenant Governor.
