**New Delhi:** Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader who served as Delhi’s Chief Minister for 141 days, submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Friday morning. This follows the BJP’s resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections on February 8th, marking their return to power after a 26-year hiatus. The BJP secured 48 seats, while the AAP won only 22, its worst performance in a decade. The Congress failed to win any seats.

Following Atishi’s resignation, the Lieutenant Governor dissolved the Delhi Assembly. A gazette notification dated February 7th, released today, officially dissolved the seventh Delhi Legislative Assembly, citing powers granted under Section 6(2)(b) of the National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991.

Atishi, who won the Kalkaji constituency by a narrow margin of 900 votes, became Delhi’s youngest ever Chief Minister on September 17, 2024. Her short tenure ends with the BJP’s return to power, a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape. Notably, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal lost his New Delhi seat to BJP’s Pravesh Verma.
