**BAKERSFIELD, CA** – A 24-year-old woman, identified as Crystal Aguilar, was arrested Thursday in Bakersfield, California, after allegedly vandalizing a flagpole at Hart Park and replacing the American flag with a Mexican flag. Aguilar, described as a known local immigrant rights activist, faces multiple charges including vandalism, trespassing, resisting arrest, and threatening a police officer.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, which released video footage of the incident, Aguilar slashed the chain securing the flagpole, threw the American flag to the ground, and hoisted the Mexican flag in its place. When park rangers arrived, she reportedly resisted arrest, making threats against the officers and their families. Statements attributed to her in the video include, “You’re not going to tell me what to do, this is Mexican land, mother******,” and “My dad is going to kill you and all your family. You think this is a joke. It’s not.”
Aguilar’s white sedan was found stuck in the mud near the flagpole. She was booked at Lerdo Jail on charges of vandalism (PC 594), resisting arrest (PC 148), trespassing, threatening a police officer (PC 69), and marijuana possession. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Reports indicate Aguilar has previously participated in protests against ICE raids, claiming her parents were deported when she was a child. The incident has sparked debate on social media and within the community.
