Sat Feb 08 10:45:12 UTC 2025: ## BJP Sweeps Delhi Assembly Elections, Kejriwal Suffers Crushing Defeat

**Prayagraj, India** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, marking a triumphant return to power in the national capital after a 27-year absence. Senior BJP leader Smriti Irani attributed the win to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that his 2014 nomination as Prime Ministerial candidate was a pivotal moment for the party’s success.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and three-time Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal suffered a significant defeat, losing his New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Verma. Four other top AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia, also lost their respective seats. With the BJP currently leading in over 45 of the 70 seats, and AAP trailing significantly, Irani declared the results a “resounding defeat” for Kejriwal, suggesting it would allow for investigations into alleged corruption.

Kejriwal, who had stepped down as Chief Minister amidst allegations of involvement in an excise policy case, had stated he would only return after a favorable public verdict. This decisive loss appears to significantly impact his political future.

Irani’s comments highlighted the BJP’s confidence, predicting further success in upcoming Bihar elections. While acknowledging the continued existence of opposition parties, she suggested a need for introspection within the opposition ranks regarding their lack of public support.
