Sat Feb 08 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Tax Refund Delays? Here’s What You Need to Know

**Philadelphia, PA** – Millions of Americans are eagerly awaiting their tax refunds, but delays are possible. The IRS reports that e-filed returns typically process within 21 days, while paper returns can take four weeks or longer. Amendments or requests for additional information will further prolong the process.

Refunds are issued when taxpayers have overpaid their taxes throughout the year. In 2024, the average refund was over $3,200, with those earning up to $10,000 receiving an average of more than $3,800. However, those earning up to $200,000 received an average refund of just under $600.

Taxpayers can track their refund status online using the IRS’s tax refund tool. The tool updates within 24 hours of e-filing for the current year, within four days for prior years, and four weeks after paper filing.

The IRS began accepting returns last week, and the tax filing deadline is April 15th. Anyone experiencing delays should check the IRS website for updates.
