Sun Feb 09 11:30:00 UTC 2025: **Gill Stars in India’s ODI Win, Eyes Historic Milestone**

**Nagpur, India –** Shubman Gill spearheaded India’s victory in the first One Day International (ODI) against England, smashing 87 runs off 96 balls and earning the Player of the Match award. The 25-year-old’s impressive performance sets the stage for a potential record-breaking feat in the upcoming match.

Gill is on the cusp of becoming the fastest batter to reach 2500 ODI runs, needing just 85 runs in the second ODI in Cuttack on Sunday to surpass Hashim Amla’s record of 53 matches. In his 48 ODI appearances, Gill has already amassed 2415 runs, including one double century, five centuries, and 14 fifties. He’s already the fastest to 20 fifty-plus scores in ODIs.

The second ODI also presents opportunities for other Indian players. Shreyas Iyer (2480 runs) needs 20 more runs to reach 2500, while Virat Kohli is just 94 runs shy of becoming the fastest to 14,000 ODI runs. Rohit Sharma requires 22 runs to overtake Rahul Dravid on the all-time ODI run-scoring list. The focus, however, remains firmly on Gill and his pursuit of an extraordinary milestone.
