**Chennai, February 9, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) will conduct a mass anti-rabies vaccination drive for stray dogs in Velachery this Sunday. The decision follows a series of dog bites on Friday that affected seven people, including a seven-month-old baby and a nine-year-old boy.
According to a Public Health Department official, all victims are currently out of danger and exhibiting no severe symptoms, though they remain under GCC monitoring. One resident recounted an incident where a seemingly non-aggressive dog bit his mother-in-law and subsequently the infant she was holding. The resident expressed uncertainty about the dog’s origins, suggesting it could be a stray, abandoned pet, or a community dog. Multiple individuals from various Velachery neighborhoods reported similar incidents on Friday. While victims were unable to identify the biting dog, authorities have captured one for observation.
