**HUNTINGTON, WV** – Heavy flooding in the Westmoreland area of Huntington has left residents reeling, with at least one homeowner reporting five feet of water in their basement. Terry Berry described the devastation, detailing the loss of irreplaceable family heirlooms and possessions. “It’s all destroyed,” Berry said, referencing ruined photos of his grandchildren and family wedding pictures.
The flooding, attributed to a malfunctioning pump system near Krout Creek, according to Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell, impacted several homes. Mayor Farrell visited Berry’s home Thursday to assess the damage firsthand.
In response, Huntington Public Works is conducting special debris and water-damaged item pickups, beginning Friday at 8 a.m. Residents can request a pickup using the Huntington WV 311 app or online. The city is working to clear flood debris and assist affected homeowners in the aftermath of the unexpected flash flooding.
