LAHORE, PAKISTAN – New Zealand suffered a setback in their opening match of the three-nation ODI series in Lahore, losing their fifth wicket against Pakistan. Despite captain Mitchell Santner winning the toss and electing to bat, New Zealand struggled to maintain momentum after Daryl Mitchell narrowly missed a century. The match was further hampered by the absence of experienced fast bowler Lockie Ferguson due to a hamstring injury.

Glenn Phillips provided some late fireworks for New Zealand, hitting several sixes, including one massive hit over the bowler’s head, but the team finished at 239/5 with 5 overs remaining. Michael Bracewell also contributed with a couple of sixes. Shaheen Afridi proved to be a key wicket-taker for Pakistan.

The three-nation tournament, also featuring South Africa, serves as a warm-up for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Each team will play two matches in the round robin phase, with the top two advancing to the final in Karachi on February 14th.
