Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, February 8, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding victory in the Milkipur Assembly by-election, held on February 5th. BJP candidate Chandrabhan Paswan defeated his closest rival, Ajit Prasad of the Samajwadi Party (SP), by a massive margin of 61,710 votes. Paswan received 146,397 votes, while Prasad garnered 84,687.
The by-election was necessitated by the election of sitting MLA Awadhesh Prasad to the Lok Sabha. The BJP’s win is being seen as a significant boost for the party, particularly given the recent Lok Sabha election loss in Ayodhya.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the BJP on its victory, praising the party’s focus on the poor, middle class, and women. He also criticized the Congress party, calling it a “parasitic party.” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his gratitude to the voters for their faith in the BJP and attributed the win to the leadership of PM Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Paswan attributed his victory to the trust placed in the leadership of PM Modi and CM Adityanath, highlighting the BJP’s tireless efforts to promote government welfare schemes. Various BJP leaders celebrated the win, viewing it as a sign of public rejection of opposition parties’ politics.
The SP’s Awadhesh Prasad alleged electoral irregularities, claims that were swiftly refuted by the BJP. Congress, which did not field a candidate, supported the SP. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) did not contest the election. The overall voter turnout was 65.35%.
