Sun Feb 09 02:31:09 UTC 2025: ## Skydiving Instructor Saves Unconscious Student in Mid-Air Seizure

**PERTH, AUSTRALIA –** A dramatic skydiving rescue has gone viral after footage emerged showing a skydiver suffering a mid-air seizure and being saved by his instructor. The video, originally recorded in 2015 and recently resurfacing online, depicts skydiver Christopher Jones of Perth, Australia, losing consciousness and spiralling uncontrollably during a freefall.

Instructor Sheldon McFarlane, who was filming the jump with a helmet camera, reacted swiftly. Despite the challenging conditions, McFarlane successfully caught up to Jones at approximately 4,000 feet, stabilized his descent, and deployed his parachute, preventing a fatal outcome. Jones regained consciousness after the parachute deployment and landed safely.

“At no time was I worried he was going to hit the ground without a parachute, but given the circumstances and where we were I thought it would be better to get him under parachute earlier than later,” McFarlane recounted to CNN in 2015. He managed to grab Jones on his second attempt.

The incredible rescue has garnered widespread praise online, with many users hailing McFarlane’s quick thinking and heroic actions. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks involved in extreme sports and the vital role of teamwork and preparedness in potentially life-threatening situations. While some celebrated the teamwork involved, others questioned the decision to skydive with a pre-existing medical condition such as epilepsy.
