Sun Feb 09 08:10:11 UTC 2025: ## BJP Wins Delhi Assembly Election in Landslide Victory
**New Delhi, February 9, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats. This marks a significant defeat for the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won only 22 seats. Chief Minister Atishi submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Sunday, although she has been asked to remain in her position until a new government is formed.
Despite Atishi retaining her own seat in Kalkaji by a margin of 3,521 votes against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, the AAP’s overall performance fell short of expectations. The BJP’s campaign focused heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without naming a Chief Ministerial candidate. The Congress party failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election.
The Election Commission of India declared the results on Saturday, following the elections held on Wednesday, February 5th. Lieutenant Governor Saxena subsequently dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly, as per a gazette notification issued on February 7th and published today.
While the BJP secured a clear majority of seats, the vote share was closer than the seat count suggests, with the BJP at 45.56% and the AAP at 43.57%. The BJP is yet to announce its choice for the next Chief Minister of Delhi.
