**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh –** Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has called for a toll waiver on all vehicles entering Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. The demand, made via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on February 9th, aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion caused by the massive influx of devotees to Prayagraj.
Mr. Yadav argued that removing toll fees would ease travel difficulties and reduce the lengthy traffic jams currently plaguing roads leading to the Kumbh Mela site. He drew a parallel to tax exemptions for films, questioning why similar consideration wasn’t given to vehicles during this major religious festival.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13th, is scheduled to continue until February 26th. The high volume of pilgrims has resulted in significant traffic challenges, prompting the SP leader’s call for action.
