**Chennai, India –** Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan’s action thriller, “Vidaamuyarchi,” enjoyed a successful opening day at the box office, raking in ₹22 crore nett in India, according to Sacnilk.com. The film, a Tamil adaptation of the 1997 American film “Breakdown,” premiered on Thursday to strong audience turnout, with theatre occupancy reaching 58.81% in the morning, 60.27% in the afternoon, and 54.79% in the evening shows. Occupancy was particularly high in Trichy and Pondicherry, exceeding 90%.
While the opening day figures are impressive, they fall slightly short of Ajith Kumar’s previous film, “Thunivu,” which debuted with ₹24.4 crore. The film’s long-term performance and weekend box office collections remain to be seen.
The film’s release was marked by enthusiastic fan celebrations, including dancing to the film’s music and some instances of fans setting off firecrackers inside theatres and minor altercations with police. Actresses Regena Cassandrra and Trisha were also spotted enjoying the film with fans.
“Vidaamuyarchi,” directed by Magizh Thirumeni, departs from typical Ajith Kumar action films, focusing on the story of an ordinary man embarking on a rescue mission after his wife’s kidnapping. A Hindustan Times review described the film as a departure from star-driven narratives, highlighting the relatable story of a husband’s desperate attempt to save his wife.
