Fri Feb 07 22:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Modi Cabinet Approves Modified South Coast Railway Zone Plan
**VISAKHAPATNAM, February 8, 2025** – The Indian Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a revised plan for the proposed South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone in Visakhapatnam. The decision partially modifies an earlier Cabinet decision, retaining a significantly reduced Waltair Division.
The revised plan retains approximately 410 km of the original Waltair Division, encompassing sections between Palasa and Jaggayyapalem. This truncated division will be renamed the Visakhapatnam Division, reflecting a move away from colonial-era naming conventions.
The remaining 680 km of the Waltair Division, including sections between Kottavalasa and Gunupur, will form a new division headquartered in Rayagada under the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
A press information bureau (PIB) release stated that retaining even a portion of the Waltair Division fulfills the aspirations of the local population.
