**Bengaluru, February 7, 2025** – United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Philemon Yang concluded a visit to Karnataka today, praising the state government’s pro-women initiatives and its advancements in technology. During his visit, Mr. Yang, who previously served as Prime Minister of Cameroon, met with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Mr. Yang specifically lauded the state’s “five guarantees” program, which focuses on women’s empowerment, including the “Gruha Lakshmi” scheme providing monthly financial assistance and the “Shakti” scheme offering free public transport. He expressed interest in sharing Karnataka’s success stories with other nations at future UN workshops.

The UNGA President also acknowledged Karnataka’s achievements in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its prominence in information technology, software development, and artificial intelligence. He was welcomed by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh with a bouquet crafted by women from a Self-Help Group, highlighting the state’s commitment to sustainability. A book showcasing Karnataka’s diversity was also presented to him, reflecting the UN’s theme of “Unity in Diversity.” Mr. Yang’s visit underscores Karnataka’s growing global recognition for its social and technological progress.
