Sat Feb 08 06:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Sigourney Weaver Joins Star Wars for Baby Yoda
**London, UK** – Acclaimed actress Sigourney Weaver has revealed the surprising reason behind her decision to join the Star Wars franchise: Grogu, aka Baby Yoda. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Weaver stated that the opportunity to share scenes with the beloved character was the primary factor in her accepting a role in the upcoming *The Mandalorian & Grogu* film.
“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu, which is probably why I did the movie,” Weaver said, adding that Grogu is “a little badass.” She teased that the film will showcase a more mature and capable Grogu.
While Weaver’s specific role remains undisclosed – although reports suggest she plays New Republic Colonel Bishop – she described her character as “in a position of authority” and tasked with sending the Mandalorian on a mission to the Outer Rim.
Despite a prolific career in science fiction with franchises like *Alien* and *Avatar*, Weaver admitted she hadn’t actively sought a Star Wars role until this opportunity arose. She expressed delight at joining the project, citing her admiration for director Jon Favreau and the *Mandalorian* series.
*The Mandalorian & Grogu*, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal, is set for release in May 2026. Before her Star Wars debut, Weaver will appear in the Apple TV+ horror-romance film *The Gorge*, premiering February 14, 2025.
